Enter 141 Sequoia Avenue via a tree-lined road that will relax you after a long work day. On the road children play, dogs are walked, and old couples walk hand-in-hand. Life is enjoyed. Lifelong friendships are made. Memories are created. This has been a happy home for one family for 60 years. Now it’s time for someone new to sit around the big table for holiday meals, tinker in the workshop, have garden parties on the sizable deck, listen to music, dance, sew, or walk to Dewing Park Pool on a summer day. This location provides peace and accessibility; a rare combination. The first American settler established what would eventually become known as Walnut Creek in 1849 when he built a cabin on the west bank of Arroyo de las Nueces (or, “Nuts Creek”).

It didn’t take long for this area to grow, and by the turn of the twentieth century, Walnut Creek was on its way to becoming a city.

In the late 1930s, with the opening of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and the Caldecott Tunnel in 1937, the area witnessed rapid growth that would  continue for decades.

In a Word

Living Here

Walnut Creek's warm climate means there’s never a shortage of outdoor family activities.

There are 15 parks in Walnut Creek, and each has its own unique appeal. Everyone — from dogs and dog lovers, to skateboarders and soccer players — will find a park that suits their needs.

And that’s not all. From shopping in Broadway Plaza to hiking by the Lafayette Resevoir, biking the trails and grabbing a bite to eat in its downtown cafés and upscale restaurants, Walnut Creek’s appeal to those who like to get out and about is undeniable.

Be sure not to miss the Butterfly Habitat Gardens in Civic Park, which is home to more 25 species of butterflies and over 100 species of California plants.

Why Walnut Creek?

Award-winning schools, easy commuter access, and a million-and-one reasons to get outside all make Walnut Creek one of the Bay Area’s most desirable places to settle down and raise a family.
